There is no greater dream than one that is held within your heart and keeps you moving forward when all else seems lost.

If you have read any of my books, and enjoyed it, I would like to ask you to return to its page where you bought it and leave a review. For it is only through your words that my books will catch on and be found by others.

Unfortunately, I cannot afford a professional editor. I have worked hard to edit my own books, but contrary to what my wife may think, I am no fool. I understand that no matter how hard you work to check your own work, it is extremely easy to miss errors. If you should notice any mistakes in my books, please let me know and I will try to fix them.

Here is a small excerpt from Maroz....

The words seemed to crash down on Willim like a mountain and he felt light in the head as the captain raised his voice to make the announcement to the rest of the people. Mothers, including Willim’s, who thought their child to be safe, began crying and begging the captain to not take them. One woman fainted and fell hard to the ground while nobody noticed for being caught up in his or her own worries. Another woman, who Willim recognized to be his friend Carlon’s mother, grabbed Carlon and began dragging him away from the soldiers while shaking her head and repeating the word “No” over, and over. What Willim thought was pandemonium before, now reached a new level as he watched it all happen in shock. He had thought he had another two years to get away and join a merchant’s guard, rather than be drafted, and now here he was being told he would be drafted this year as well.

In the corner of his eye, Willim saw the Captain point and say something to his corporal, and then an arrow flashed across his vision to embed itself in the back of Carlon’s mother. Carlon screamed as he watched his mother fall face first, dead as she hit the ground. Wrapping his fingers around the shaft, Carlon pulled the arrow out and spun on his feet to charge the Corporal, who still held the bow.  Carlon’s yells were filled with rage as he charged the bowman. Willim shouted for him to stop, but was too late as another arrow took his friend in the throat. Carlon stopped where he was, wide eyed as he fumbled with the shaft, as if wondering how it had gotten there before falling backwards to stare at the sky through empty eyes.

Everyone now stood in silence. Some out of shock and others out of fear they might receive the next arrow, but they stood silent all the same. The rest of the soldiers on horses all lifted bows nocked with arrows to give those fears a reality. The captain cleared his throat to draw their attention to him before he spoke in a harsh voice. “I will have no more insubordination from anyone! As I had said, the age this year will be seventeen, now anyone over thirteen get in line and be ready to give your age and name. Remember, we will be comparing your answers to the records from last year. If we find anyone lies, he will be arrested and hung.”

Willim looked at his mother, her eyes red with tears and mouthed the words. “It’s okay!” Right then he wished his father was there to comfort her and knew she would have to find her comfort from friends. His father had gone to the city of Golston to sell some horses. Horses brought a strong premium in the bigger cities and they needed the money. He was sorry he would not be able to tell his father good-bye. “It’s okay.” He whispered to her again, though this time he was trying to convince himself as well.

Suddenly, someone gasped as a ghostly howl broke the silence. Every eye turned to the sky as the people, and even the soldiers, stepped as far away from the dead bodies as they could get without looking like they were trying to escape. Someone pointed to the north and they turned to watch as a writhe and a death hound descended. Before they reached the ground, the hound changed directions and hurried off to the west, but the writhe continued to descend to the bodies. There was nothing solid looking in a writhe. The black tendrils of mist spread and billowed in every direction and even the face and hands did not look quite solid.
Then without warning, the writhes hand shot forward and the long pointed looking fingers closed as if clamping on to something. Everyone knew what it had caught. The writhe had snatched a soul before it could get away. They just did not know which soul it was, the mother’s or the son’s.

The howling of the Death hound continued in the distance and the people knew the reasons for that as well. The other soul had tried to get away and the hound had gone off after it. The writhe turned its head in the direction of the howling and then to the people around it. Its ghostly mouth spread open wide as it screeched at the people, and then it hurried away in the direction of the hound.

Nobody moved for a long time as every eye followed the writhe, stretching away into the distance. Even the soldiers were licking their lips.

"Descent of Darkness" Coming soon

Descent of Darkness, book two of the Demon Siege Trilogy is nearly finished. I am on a next to last run through with the book. When I am done going over it, I will be handing it off to my friend, who is the one person I know I can count on to read it and be honest with me. He will go over it, scribble notes about what he doesnt like, and then I will go over it and fix the things he noted... If I agree with him.

The down side to the second book, is that it is not as long as the first. At this time, it tops out at just under 61,000 words. I am sorely disappointed with myself over this. I like to put 70,000 as my minimum. I could fatten it up but I would only do so if I can add solid meat to the story. I would rather have a solid novel that is on the short side, than a longer novel with a lot of useless fat in the story.

Descent of Darkness
In Descent of Darkness, the demon, Arkaix, uses the Uguchi, a warrior tribe from across the desert to invade the Land of the Three Kings. With the power of an ancient scepter he attacks the City of Alexander with one goal in mind. To obtain the Logimaj Dagger. A weapon of sacrifice that will allow his demons to have their spiritual strength in the physical world. To create an army that will hunt down and kill the human race.

The Lords and Generals of Alexander have fled in the face of the invading Uguchi. One captain, Marshal Cleves, holds the army together as they defend the city. Hoping to keep the Uguchi Warriors at bay until help can arrive. Armies are coming rushing to their aid, and with them are the heroes from War of Demons.

Hel Bragen, the Giant, the priest, Levicus Kane, and the troubled Stray are joined by Curion, the angel who survived in the War of the Demons, and Marz Wolfe, the most feared killer to ever walk the land. They know what they will be facing. What they do not know, is if the Uguchi can be stopped.

I hope you have tried reading Hell in a Storm, and that you enjoyed it. I personally believe Descent of Darkness, will stand above its predecessor. However, with the first book being free, this will not be the case for the second book.

Kenneth J. Ester - Author's Profile

Choosing not to go to college, I got a job in engineering, straight out of high school. That was a mistake, as I have been in the industry for many years and do not make very much of a living. With today's economy, the degree has become far more important in the field than ever before.

With the new year of 2012, came the worst six months of my life. It was one bad situation after another as my wife hurt her back and lost her job, I lost my overtime and we had expensive car problems hit. By June (the reason this post is marked for May, is so that it doesnt show up above my books posts) we were facing an eviction and behind on both of our cars payments as well as several other bills. When I went to my boss and asked him what I could do to build on my worth to the company, he pretty much said I couldnt.

I have always thought I liked the Engineering industry. While others complained, I was happy, as I liked that I was in air conditioning in the Summer, a heated office in the Winter, and never getting dirty. Little did I know that my discovery of my passion for writing would end all that.

In 2003, I started writing my first book. I spent my half hour lunch, every day, writing it. After more than three years, I finished and learned that it simply was not that good. That didn't matter. I was hooked and I knew that the more I wrote, the better I would get. As time has gone by, I realize I was right. I have been getting better as I continued to write. I was also losing my contentment in engineering.

Today I go to work and I do in fact work hard. It is not in me to fluff off at a job, and I do have great respect for those I work for and with. But I no longer want to stay in this field. With every lunch, as I am writing my book, my desire to be a full time author grows stronger. I will not be satisfied until I reach that goal.

I have never taken any classes on creative writing. English was not one of my favorite classes in school. This, I realize has slowed my growth as a writer, and I would advise anyone who wants to write for a living, to take classes if they can afford it. I never could, so I have learned to pay closer attention to the books I read. How they write, the styles as well as the grammar. One could say that I have learned to write from the likes of Robert Jordan, Terry Goodkind, and David Gemmell. It may have been a slower process, but I try to look at it this way. What better teachers can one ask for?

So I will continue writing.

Currently, I am working on what is temporarily titled, "The Mergings". I first started writing this book almost two years ago and for the life of me I have no idea why I never continued it. As much as I love my other books at this time, I feel that the Mergings will be better.

I have two Fantasy books available at this time. "Hell in a Storm" and "The Descent of Darkness" can both be found at Amazon, Barnes&Noble, and several other places. Hell in a Storm has received good reviews from the readers who have left reviews, so I decided to submit it to some on-line review sites. If it is reviewed and the critics like the book, I will then push, the Mergings, aside once again in favor of putting all of my time into finishing the third and final book of the Demon Siege Trilogy. However, if the reviews are bad, they will virtually destroy the chances of that series doing well until I have established myself. So I will then continue with the Mergings and the third book of the series will have to wait.

If you would like to see the third book of the Demon Siege Trilogy finished, you can help by spreading word of the first two books. Post links to it on your facebook, tweet about it, tell friends. The more who learn of it, the better chances of the books succeeding.
