There is no greater dream than one that is held within your heart and keeps you moving forward when all else seems lost.

If you have read any of my books, and enjoyed it, I would like to ask you to return to its page where you bought it and leave a review. For it is only through your words that my books will catch on and be found by others.

Unfortunately, I cannot afford a professional editor. I have worked hard to edit my own books, but contrary to what my wife may think, I am no fool. I understand that no matter how hard you work to check your own work, it is extremely easy to miss errors. If you should notice any mistakes in my books, please let me know and I will try to fix them.

Here is a small excerpt from Maroz....

The words seemed to crash down on Willim like a mountain and he felt light in the head as the captain raised his voice to make the announcement to the rest of the people. Mothers, including Willim’s, who thought their child to be safe, began crying and begging the captain to not take them. One woman fainted and fell hard to the ground while nobody noticed for being caught up in his or her own worries. Another woman, who Willim recognized to be his friend Carlon’s mother, grabbed Carlon and began dragging him away from the soldiers while shaking her head and repeating the word “No” over, and over. What Willim thought was pandemonium before, now reached a new level as he watched it all happen in shock. He had thought he had another two years to get away and join a merchant’s guard, rather than be drafted, and now here he was being told he would be drafted this year as well.

In the corner of his eye, Willim saw the Captain point and say something to his corporal, and then an arrow flashed across his vision to embed itself in the back of Carlon’s mother. Carlon screamed as he watched his mother fall face first, dead as she hit the ground. Wrapping his fingers around the shaft, Carlon pulled the arrow out and spun on his feet to charge the Corporal, who still held the bow.  Carlon’s yells were filled with rage as he charged the bowman. Willim shouted for him to stop, but was too late as another arrow took his friend in the throat. Carlon stopped where he was, wide eyed as he fumbled with the shaft, as if wondering how it had gotten there before falling backwards to stare at the sky through empty eyes.

Everyone now stood in silence. Some out of shock and others out of fear they might receive the next arrow, but they stood silent all the same. The rest of the soldiers on horses all lifted bows nocked with arrows to give those fears a reality. The captain cleared his throat to draw their attention to him before he spoke in a harsh voice. “I will have no more insubordination from anyone! As I had said, the age this year will be seventeen, now anyone over thirteen get in line and be ready to give your age and name. Remember, we will be comparing your answers to the records from last year. If we find anyone lies, he will be arrested and hung.”

Willim looked at his mother, her eyes red with tears and mouthed the words. “It’s okay!” Right then he wished his father was there to comfort her and knew she would have to find her comfort from friends. His father had gone to the city of Golston to sell some horses. Horses brought a strong premium in the bigger cities and they needed the money. He was sorry he would not be able to tell his father good-bye. “It’s okay.” He whispered to her again, though this time he was trying to convince himself as well.

Suddenly, someone gasped as a ghostly howl broke the silence. Every eye turned to the sky as the people, and even the soldiers, stepped as far away from the dead bodies as they could get without looking like they were trying to escape. Someone pointed to the north and they turned to watch as a writhe and a death hound descended. Before they reached the ground, the hound changed directions and hurried off to the west, but the writhe continued to descend to the bodies. There was nothing solid looking in a writhe. The black tendrils of mist spread and billowed in every direction and even the face and hands did not look quite solid.
Then without warning, the writhes hand shot forward and the long pointed looking fingers closed as if clamping on to something. Everyone knew what it had caught. The writhe had snatched a soul before it could get away. They just did not know which soul it was, the mother’s or the son’s.

The howling of the Death hound continued in the distance and the people knew the reasons for that as well. The other soul had tried to get away and the hound had gone off after it. The writhe turned its head in the direction of the howling and then to the people around it. Its ghostly mouth spread open wide as it screeched at the people, and then it hurried away in the direction of the hound.

Nobody moved for a long time as every eye followed the writhe, stretching away into the distance. Even the soldiers were licking their lips.

Double Book Whammy

I am currently working on doing two things at once. The first one will be to release my book, Hell in a Storm, on KDP Select, and make it free with the promotional days. This is supposed to help bring people to find your other books as well, of which at this time I only have The Descent of Darkness available. So I am now looking at publishing my new book, Maroz, at the same time to help bring it a few readers. Once the three months are up for Hell in a Storm, I will add Maroz to KDP Select and make that one free. Hopefully this will continue to bring new readers to the Demon Siege Trilogy (Even if I do only have the first two books out). Once Maroz is finished in KDP Select, I will hopefully be finished with The Rise of the Seven (Book-3 in the Demon Siege Trilogy) and I will place Hell in a Storm on KDP Select again in hopes of bring more readers back to the Demon Siege Trilogy and more sales to the third book. This could start as soon as Easter Weekend. It might be delayed one week, but Easter Weekend is my goal. So this is my plan at this time, and I am sticking to it..... unless someone gives me a good reason to do something different.

Hell in a Storm to soon be in KDP Select

I will soon be entering the first book of the Demon Siege Trilogy, Hell in a Storm, into KDP Select.

KDP Select is an Amazon run program that helps promote a new book to numerous new readers. One promotion that I plan to take advantage of, is the free give away.  For a certain amount of days, Hell in a Storm will be free to down load for your reading pleasure. I believe, but am not sure, as I am not a pro at this KDP Select stuff yet, that you will be able to lend to book out to other readers as well.

There is one drawback however. While in the KDP Select program, Hell in a Storm will only be found through Amazon as they will have exclusive rights for at least the three months I have the book enrolled.

I will post the news when it is enrolled, so keep your eyes out and join my email list if you havent already.

Update for March of 2014

HELL in a STORM

My first book, Hell in a Storm, has been re-edited.  If you havent read it, give it a try.

The DESCENT of DARKNESS

The second book of the Demon Siege Trilogy is still in process of being re-edited. However, it should be done within another week. Two at the worst.

MAROZ

I still have no better name for this book. It still needs to be re-edited one more time, and for the first time, I plan on having a book cover professionally made. Unfortunately, that will likely not be done until July.

Update to my Progress

I hate to say it, but things are going much slower than I was hoping for. As some might know, my wife and I are not well of with money, so I work a lot of hours trying to pay bills. On top of that, I have realized there were some definite editing problems with my first two books, so I have gone back and re-edited Hell in a Storm, and am now in the progress of editing The Descent of Darkness. After that, I will then have to edit my new (old) book, Maroz. Between my job and my editing, I have very little time left. Top that with the fact my wife's step-father for around forty years now, is dying of cancer. As I write this, I am not expecting him to survive the weekend. I do wish I could afford a professional editor. I would then be able to spend my book time with writing rather than editing. But I may as well wish that the back storm cloud that seems to follow me around will break open and start raining money. Once I am finished editing both, The Descent of Darkness, and Maroz, I will finally return to writing The Rise of the Seven, Book-3 of the Demon Siege Trilogy. I would then just have to hope I have the drive to write still. I will not lie. Life is rough right now. With all of the book problems pressing me, and my wife's step-father near to dying, there are plenty of other troubles we are dealing with these days. Most of which are based around financial problems. So far, 2014 has been nothing but one piece of bad news after another. Which is to say, we are right on track to match up with 2012 & 2013. If you have read any of my books and enjoyed it, you can always help by spreading word of it. Go to Amazon and leave a review for it as well, but please be honest.

Looking for Beta Readers - Maroz

Temprorarily named "Maroz", this is a new old book. I wrote it years ago and when agents werent interested, I posted it in a blog. Recently I decided to go back over it, edit it some, change the names of some characters, and maybe give it a better name (if I can come up wth one I like).  Then of course I want to self Publish the book.

I am very close to finishing the re-edit and am looking for friends who would be willing to read it. I cannot pay, but at least you get a free book and some input to make it better.

I would be looking for....

1) Most importantly, mistakes in the story I missed. Things that I might have stated early in the story and forgot all about later.

2) Sentences that bring the reader to a halt because it is not smooth enough or too confusing.

3) If you are any good at editing, and wish to point out my misuse of commas or anything like that, I will not complain, as I cannot afford a professional editor and I know I am not perfect. In fact sometimes I think gorillas have better grammar.

4) Any parts in the story that simply become boring.

5) Not asking for this, but if you should think of better quips to make someone laugh rather than those I used at certain points, feel free to mention them. If you happen to just think... "Man did he miss a chance to do etc..." feel free to mention it. I may or may not agree, but if I like it, I am not too full of myself to make a little change here or there if I think it is better. I am even open to a better title. Anything that makes the book better.

NOTE - As I said, I cannot afford to pay anything for any ideas, or help offered. I can only offer a free ebook and add your name to my acknowledgements page.

Synopsis - A shadow is stretching across the land, threatening to swallow the world in its darkness. Within the shadow, the Lord of Death walks the land of the living, surrounded by his minions of Hell. The hope of the world lies in the hands of the elementals, men who can manipulate the five elements; fire, water, earth, wind, and spirit.

If you are interested in reading this book, please email me at KennethJEster@hotmail.com and let me know a little about yourself.  Do you read a lot of books? What genre is your favorite? Do you have a good knowledge of the English language?  Oh, and a na,e is always helpful. :o)

Impatience is My Greatest Enemy

With the first two books of the Demon Siege Trilogy available, there is a yearning in me to write the third and complete the series. Which would also probably start another series in doing so. I have another entirely different book in the works and about 1/3 finished. I also have a novel I wrote years ago, and ended up placing it on a blog.

At this time, I have decided to work on the completed older story first. When I wrote it, I was still learning how to write. I am still learning how to write, but I have improved in the years. At least I would like to think so. So I figured it would take less time to go over a previously completed story and clean it up, give the characters smoother sounding names and such than it would to write the other stories.  Yet while I do this, I am impatient to get back to the other stories. I have to be wary of this impatience, for I do not want it to make me hurry through fixing up the current work.

At this time, it is only to be found in the eBook form, at the low price of $2.99, and is only at Smashwords and Amazon. However, Barnes & Noble and Kobo will be coming very shortly and even better, the printed version will be available at Amazon as well for only, $8.99 + shipping/handling pretty soon.

I apologize for how long it has taken, and I am hoping you like it  If you do enjoy it, please give me feed back, leave reviews at the site you purchase the book, and/or most importantly, spread the word of it.

On another bright spot, The first book Hell in a Storm is now available in a Printed version at Amazon, for only $8.99 + shipping.

Map to Jawiva

Hell in a Storm will soon be available at Amazon in a paper back printed version. Hopefully, if all goes well, it will be available within a week, or two if it is delayed. God I hope not longer.

In the printed version, I was hoping to add a page with a map of Jawiva, the Land of the Three Kings. Unfortunately, I have come to realize that though I am artistic minded enough to create a decent map, I cannot seem to create one that is legible when it is scaled down to the size of a book page.

In lieu of this problem, I have decided to post the map here in this blog and the URL for where to find it in the book.

Jawiva (The Land of the Three Kings) from the Demon Siege Trilogy

Note* - This map is sort of a living document, as I will ad more information and details as I feel they are needed to accommodate future books.

Hell in a Storm gains Good Reviews

Hell in a Storm, the first book of the Demon Siege Trilogy, has received some very good reviews at Barnes & Nobles Ebook store. With a ranking of 1 to 5 stars, Hell in a Storm is averaging a solid 4 Stars!

I believed in myself and believed I could write a decent story, but there is nothing more satisfying to an author than to read reviews by others, whom he does not know, which rave about his story and writing.

With the good reviews, and with Descent of Darkness coming so close to being published, I felt it was time to put Hell in a Storm up for sale at Amazon. However, since one does not have the ability to place a book for free at Amazon, I was forced to put a price of $2.99, as well as now add the same price at other places the book is available.

If you have not read Hell in a Storm, I hope you will give it a chance. After all, what is $3 today for a chance to read a good book?

In the Mean Time

Descent of Darkness is still coming. The book is finished and my best friend and the one person I trust to be honest about my writing has read it. And in his words, "I read your book. It's great!"

I will be spending a little more time going over it one more time myself and seeing if I need to make any adjustments. Then it will be published.

In the Mean Time!

While my friend was reading The Descent of Darkness, and I took a step back to clear my head of it, I have put together a Joke Book.

LMAO Joke Book is a collection of 150 of the very funniest clean jokes I could find. I'm not talking about the stupid jokes you see on every joke site and in every book. After reading thousands of jokes, these are only the jokes that actually brought a laugh or chuckle from me. By the LMAO Joke Book (Ebook) at Smashwords for only $2.99!

"Descent of Darkness" Coming soon

Descent of Darkness, book two of the Demon Siege Trilogy is nearly finished. I am on a next to last run through with the book. When I am done going over it, I will be handing it off to my friend, who is the one person I know I can count on to read it and be honest with me. He will go over it, scribble notes about what he doesnt like, and then I will go over it and fix the things he noted... If I agree with him.

The down side to the second book, is that it is not as long as the first. At this time, it tops out at just under 61,000 words. I am sorely disappointed with myself over this. I like to put 70,000 as my minimum. I could fatten it up but I would only do so if I can add solid meat to the story. I would rather have a solid novel that is on the short side, than a longer novel with a lot of useless fat in the story.

Descent of Darkness
In Descent of Darkness, the demon, Arkaix, uses the Uguchi, a warrior tribe from across the desert to invade the Land of the Three Kings. With the power of an ancient scepter he attacks the City of Alexander with one goal in mind. To obtain the Logimaj Dagger. A weapon of sacrifice that will allow his demons to have their spiritual strength in the physical world. To create an army that will hunt down and kill the human race.

The Lords and Generals of Alexander have fled in the face of the invading Uguchi. One captain, Marshal Cleves, holds the army together as they defend the city. Hoping to keep the Uguchi Warriors at bay until help can arrive. Armies are coming rushing to their aid, and with them are the heroes from War of Demons.

Hel Bragen, the Giant, the priest, Levicus Kane, and the troubled Stray are joined by Curion, the angel who survived in the War of the Demons, and Marz Wolfe, the most feared killer to ever walk the land. They know what they will be facing. What they do not know, is if the Uguchi can be stopped.

I hope you have tried reading Hell in a Storm, and that you enjoyed it. I personally believe Descent of Darkness, will stand above its predecessor. However, with the first book being free, this will not be the case for the second book.

Diary of a Writer - 1

The first book I remember reading was "Amityville Horror". I was somewhere around fourteen when I read that. The next time I read a book all the way through, I was twenty. I was out of work and living with my real father and he had Louie L'Amour's, "The Lonesome Gods" laying on the table. I was so bored, I finally picked it up and started reading it. The next evening I finished it and my passion for reading Westerns had been born. I am not sure if there is a Louie L'Amour book I have not read.

My friend once told me I should try writing a western, since I read them so much. So I tried. Then I tried again. Then I tried again, and again. That was when I realized two things. One is that without maps of the old west, my geography would be so messed up in my books, that I would look like nothing more than a hack. Second, I realized that writing a novel by hand was near impossible. Computers were not real popular at the time and I did not own a typewriter. So the idea of writing was pushed out of my head.

Years later, I was out of work again This happens a lot in the Automotive Engineering field, you need to understand. I was laid-off and flat out broke. I finished my current book and had nothing to read. So, out of desperation, I took my cowboy pride and stuffed it in my back pocket and asked my brother if he had any books I could read. My brother, you need to understand, was into reading Fantasy, and that is a far cry from a good Western.  He handed me Robert Jordan's "Eye of the World", the first book in the "Wheel of Time" series. He might as well have given me heroin as fast as I became addicted.

Several years after that, my life changed in many ways. I met my wife, got a new job in the engineering field, where I worked on a computer, and found I was bored at lunch times. That was when it all began. The first week at the job, I did not know what to do with myself at lunch. I didnt like playing the games on the computer and it wasnt football season, so I didnt bother buying the paper for the sports section. So one day I made a decision. I would write my own fantasy novel.

You see, Fantasy did not limit me like westerns did. I didnt need maps to the old west. I could make my own world up. In fact, I did not need to be an expert on anything as I could create whatever I wanted. Fantasy did the one thing that no other genre could have. It freed my imagination.

So I wrote for a half an hour every day at lunch. For years I wrote. I am not a fast typist! I wrote and wrote until about three years later, I finished my first book of 350 pages. I sent it out to several agents and did not get back a good response from any of them. One response in particular got me wondering however. They said they would never touch a first time authors manuscript that was so long. Seriously? 350 pages was too long? Imagine my surprise when I realized I had the formatting messed up and did not have it double spaced and such. My book was truly over 750 pages. Looking back, I realize the book simply was not good enough anyway. It is amazing how much practice helps. With every book I have written, I can actually see the improvements.

Now I feel I am ready. The last book I wrote, Hell in a Storm (Book-1 of the Demon Siege Trilogy), was the first novel I wrote, where I think someone would enjoy it, but even with that book, I think it gets better as it goes and is best at the end. I am currently working onbook-2, which is currently titled "The Descent of Darkness", and I believe this book is better than the first. It is currently at 48,000 words and growing closer and closer to being finished. And that is the hardest part of writing. My greatest struggle.

I am not a rich man. Quite frankly, I am very poor. I work as many hours as my job will let me and between a fulltime job, my wife and family, and the dog, I am very restricted to when I can write. Like before, I write for a half an hour every day at lunch. Some days I will punch out at the end of the day and sit back down and write for another half an hour before I go home. Most evenings I will write for a bit before I go to bed. Too many of those evenings, however, are stolen from my writing to answer emails for my blog "Michigan Spiders".

Oh how I love writing. There is nothing I would rather do for a career than write. I know I will get there some day, but it will take some time as my limited time for writing holds me back from getting my books out there. The more I write, the more I want to make it a career. The more I want that career, the more I hate working my engineering job. The more I hate working my job, and want to write, the more of a struggle every day is. Let me assure you. Right now, my life really sucks, in my own mind!

Well, here is to unaccomplished goals. For without them, what goals would we have to strive for? Hopefully I will be finished with a Descent of Darkness, soon. I have big plans for the third book of the trilogy.
